Comm Comm Minutes 5-12-11
Attending: Erin, Paula, Glenda, Carolyn

Donation Requests
Committee would still like to contact Second Harvest, even though we didn’t contribute to their auction, because our missions are so similar. Possibly a food drive at the co-op?
Only donation request was from the Lutheran Volunteer Corps, which didn’t seem appropriate to fund.

Ads
Glenda is working with the Public House (Gibson) to design a larger, color ad for the June Currents. Since Locust Street Festival is just one day, perhaps the ad could be a more general “Support your local co-ops” theme and list several upcoming events.

Events
Since last year’s Event Coordinator contract is missing, the revised contract will be brought to the Board next week for approval. General discussion about the need to work with the Volunteer Coordinator to come up with a list of possible event volunteers to contact, rather than waiting for people to sign up. Need to get on this ASAP.
Fair Trade Crawl (May 14) – Will feature banana waffles, Divine Chocolate samples and Rishi tea demonstration. (Update: Waffles were a big hit after the Café posted a photo on FB).
Locust St. Festival (June 12) – Carolyn will work with thethe Public House (Gibson) on our combined booth for her first event as Event Coordinator.
Juneteenth (June 19th) -
Locust Farmers Market – Carolyn has been in discussions with the farmers’ market about having a Co-op presence at the market each week. Would probably consist of one or two co-op volunteers on hand to run EBT transactions, and eventually expand to providing nutritional workshops.
Bastille Days – Lack of vegetarian options in the past might make this a good opportunity for the co-op. Carolyn will contact the East Towne Association.

Member Outreach/Website
Need to keep updating info on website. Possible things to highlight include Co-op Partners and the new café co-managers, once they are both hired.

Groupon Update
-319 redeemed, average bill $17.15

10th Anniversary
Mug saga continues. Requested biodegradable plastic mug is made in China, not in USA as it said on website. Member Brian works at Sky High Promotions and is sending us a sample of a made-in-USA ceramic mug, which can have the design burned on. Otherwise, we will be ordering corn mugs through Sky High.
Glenda offered to post a sign in cafe kitchen, along with an envelope for collecting recipes.
Committee will pass along 10th Anniversary logo to Julie to put on our next batches of t-shirts. Would like to have these done by Locust Street Festival (Update: Julie says she will be working on these next week).
Worker’s Collective and others would like to see plans for 10th Annivesary party started. Discussed having the party somewhere other than Falcon Bowl or Public House in order to make it special-and perhaps catered to give the café the night off. Locations suggested include Hubbard Park Lodge, Gordon Park Pavillion, Linnemans. Perhaps include a silent auction to make it a fundraiser as well – café cooks could offer catered meals as auction items.
