Finance Committee Minutes 8/10/10

Present: Shelly (for a minute), Clare, Michelle, Gibson

-Decided to go ahead on spice rack purchase, after checking with health inspectors, etc. to make sure they’re up to code.  We’ll stock up on the spices that come at 50% discount with purchase of rack.

-Sales were up in the cafe in June, the cafe made money!  Costs were down, sales wer up, payroll was at 41%.  Great work by the cafe staff and managers.

-These numbers don’t include the large check from the RW24, but we did have a heck of a day during the race ($1400 cafe day).

-More fundraisers are needed.  Theresa and Caroline are working on a couple ideas, we’d like to see some music show fundraisers as well as family-friendly events.  We’ll organize an anniversary event, thinking some kind of fancy-pants gala.

-Some discussion of aesthetics- the awnings need cleaning (we’ll be closed for cleaning on September 21^st).  ArtWalk is coming up the first weekend in October, some painting needs to get done in cafe.  Clare and Michelle will also research better seating and tables for the cafe, with hopes of having something new by Fall cleaning.

-The bakery case in the cafe also needs to be replaced- Michelle will explore options.  If we can get a deal, a small fridge for the cafe would be nice too.

-Some reminders for Communications Committee: teachers are coming back soon, think coupons.  The billboard could use a facelift as well.
